All TALK and NO ACTION!

Remember over the summer when the mayor was asked about when the city would get a new Chief Building Official? We were told that the position could only remain vacant for 120 days or we could lose our certification and the position would be filled by November 20^th?

 

Over the summer I spotted a house whore on my street and turned em in and the city showed their gratitude to me by citing me instead and I had to pay a fine of $250.00 because I was still waiting for an insurance claim to be settled. To bad the building department wasted and spent their time trying to hassle me into court because you know how much of the $250.00 the building department received in return?

 

NADA because court fines go to the courts and the general fund. Had they collected the proper amounts for the permit on my street and the required registration fees they may have returned some money to the building department.

 

 

Back to my house. I have been fighting for over a year trying to get my mortgage company that failed to pay my escrowed insurance premium and left my home uninsured for five months until I had a claim. The claim is a little under 6 grand and guess what the permit to FIX JUST MY SIDING is going to cost? $112.13 for a six thousand dollar job along with my contractor has to be properly licensed, bonded and insured meaning more revenue for the city

 

So, about a hundred bucks for the permit, a hundred and seventy five for the contractor registration, if half the cost is for payroll for the contractor that’s another sixty bucks in payroll taxes and assuming the contractor makes 20% profit on the job, there is another twenty four bucks in income taxes. Little ol law abiding me is going to create almost THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS WORTH OF REVENUE FOR OUR CITY spread out to TWO GENERAL FUND DEPARTMENTS THAT HELP RUN OUR CITY. Add that to my two hundred and fifty dollar fine that I have to pay, and the city is gonna get SIX HUNDRED BUCKS FROM LIL OL ME. My home is gonna pay close to a weeks wages for a new building inspector.

 

What did THIS GUY PAY?

 

Henrey Hawk recently did what he thought was a FAME IT at his blog about a house that was a turd, that is still a turd, just polished. The building Department indicated to me when I called them that two permits were pulled saying that the entire valuation was $2500.00.

 

I am fixing my siding and the city gets three fifty not including the fine and THIS GUY who replaced the roof, removed the old wood siding, installed new vinyl siding on the home, modified window openings and installed new windows, replaced exterior entry doors and lock sets, painted the foundation, rebuilt the porch, and removed a shit load of construction materials and debris, did it all for twenty five hundred bucks and didn’t get a single inspection.

 

I have seen comments where it has been stated that at least the home looks a hell of a lot better than it did before, but how long do you think prettier lasts?

 

The folks that own their home next door will just love living next to a single family home that has been converted into a duplex and having two families peaceably living on top of each other. I am just overwhelmingly sure that this HONEST AND CARING LANDLORD THAT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A DISGUISED CONTRACTOR is really concerned that he is going to rent to tenants that have impeccable honesty and careful considerations as he does.

 

Oh, by the way. In being all honest and transparent. It doesn’t appear that the owner hasn’t paid any taxes on any of his numerous properties in about two tears and the pretty house on the corner of 19th and Ashland is LISTED AS A SINGLE FAMILY HOME AND THE CITIES LAWS STATE THAT NONCONFORMING STRUCTURES THAT HAVE BEEN VACANT FOR OVER A YEAR MUST BE, NOT JUST A LITTLE MAYBE, BUT MUST BE RETURNED TO CONFORMING STATUS.

 

LOOKS TO ME LIKE SOMEONE BOUGHT A HOME THAT HAD NO IDEA HOW MANY LAWS THEY WERE GONNA BREAK.
